Anthologies
Every anthology is filled with essays, poems, comics and stories from the young writers and artists of upper Manhattan. Purchase them online from Word Up Community Bookshop, or in person at Buunni Coffee, and Dutch Baby Bakery.
Guaranteed to give you all the feels, every book sold supports our Pay-What-You-Can Tuition Policy, helping Uptown Stories provide space for all children from our economically diverse neighborhood.

Ready to Join a Workshop?
It's time for you to be the master of your universe! Let's explore worlds of your own creation, inhabited by beings that only you can imagine. We'll work together—whether you prefer fantasy, science fiction, magical realism or dystopia—to bring your ideas to life. We'll map out stories rich in symbolism, unleash our hidden storytelling skills, and be each other's sounding boards along the way. If you've ever dreamed of another world, this is the workshop where you can make it happen!
If you like fairies and monsters, epic battles and poisoned apples, there is no doubt you will LOVE Fairytales, Myths, and Fables. We're unraveling the stories we all know, learning about their origins, alt versions, and why they seem to have everlasting staying power in readers' minds.
We'll write our own original or adapted magical tales, add to spine-tingling myths, and put a new twist on fantastical fables. If you want to live happily ever after, this is the workshop for you!
Stan Lee. Junot Diaz. Jocelyn Bioh. Lin-Manuel Miranda. These are just of the few amazing artists and writers that proudly boast that they’re from Uptown NYC. And why wouldn’t they? Living uptown is clearly where it’s at, and in this workshop, we’re going to write and draw all about it.
We’ll be out and about, visiting the some of the best known (and unknown!) art spots Washington Heights and Inwood have to offer. We’ll explore our neighborhoods and get inspiration from the museums, murals, people, history, and culture that make Upper Manhattan the beautiful mosaic it is. Then we’ll get busy adding our art and writing to that legacy. Show the city your uptown pride!
